There are three major acts in Indian Constitutions Like:-

  1. Indian Penal Code, 1860.

Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr. P. C.), 1973 

CrPC, is the law that prescribes the procedure and various stages to conduct a criminal trial in India. The procedure prescribed under the CrPC covers how to collect the evidence, the methods and modes of examination of witnesses, interrogation of accused, how the arrests are to be made, procedural safeguards to be followed by Police and Courts, grant of Bail and Anticipatory Bail, the process of criminal various types of Criminal Trial, Saving of inherent powers of High Court, a method and modes of conviction, and the rights of the accused person of a fair trial by principles of natural justice and appeal before Sessions Court and High Court. It also prescribes the revisional powers of Sessions Court and the High Court. Briefly stated, Criminal Trials are of three types under the CrPC.

  1. Warrant Trial – Punishment 7 years of more 
  2. Summons Trial – Punishment maximum 7 years 
  3. Summary Trial – Punishment maximum 6 months
